Social Communities
Everyone knows Facebook has been the world’s reigning favorite social network for the past five years, having knocked MySpace off its pedestal and virtually cornered the entire market for profile page based networking pages. No one wanted to mess with Facebook, it seemed, until the summer of 2011 brought some unanticipated competition from Google in the form of its Google+ social networking alternative to Facebook. Google played it smart from the very beginning, keeping it exclusive by letting people in only if they had been invited by one of the select few given access pre-release. Soon, it seemed everyone wanted an invite; well, everyone who is extremely tech savvy at least. Which might explain why so many communities are still networking with Facebook instead of Google+. Facebook is easy, familiar, and really — who needs anything else similar to it? If it ain’t broke, why replicate it? That appears to be the stance many have taken.
